Argentina is a country in the southern half of South America on the Atlantic Ocean. The land has a total area of 2,780,400 km² and a total coastline of 4,989 km. This area is approximately 400% of the area of Texas. The country has about 50 islands. There are direct national borders with the 5 neighbouring countries Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. The distance between New York City and the Capital Buenos Aires is about 8,530 km.According to the definition of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Argentina is one of the developing countries because of its lower economic performance. With an Human Development Index (HDI) of 0.830 Argentina counts as one of the high developed economies by UN-definition. However, the IMF does not share this classification.
