Bahamas are an archipelago in the caribbean sea. The land has a total area of 13,880 km² and a total coastline of 3,542 km. This area is approximately 112% of the area of Sydney. The archipelago consists of about 700 partially uninhabited islands. Bahamas have no direct neighbours. The distance between New York City and the Capital Nassau is about 1,770 km.According to the definition of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Bahamas are one of the developing countries because of its lower economic performance. With an Human Development Index (HDI) of 0.805 Bahamas counts as one of the high developed economies by UN-definition. However, the IMF does not share this classification. Bahamas are regularly listed as a tax haven by several organizations.
