Serbia is a landlocked country on the Balkan peninsula in southeastern Europe. The land has a total area of 88,360 km². This area is approximately 111% of the area of Maine. There is no access to the open sea. There are direct national borders with the 8 neighbouring countries Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, Hungary, Macedonia, Bulgaria and Romania. The distance between New York City and the Capital Belgrade is about 7,270 km.According to the definition of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Serbia is one of the developing countries because of its lower economic performance. Serbia is sometimes referred to as a tax haven.
