Relocating to Wiesbaden-Mainz

The two cities of Wiesbaden and Mainz have bustling city centers, which calms rapidly as you move further into the respective suburbs. Many different types of homes are on offer in the area, from riverside apartments, through city center abodes, and larger country houses. Between Wiesbaden and Mainz, all tastes, needs and lifestyles are catered for.

About the Cities

Wiesbaden is located on the north bank of the Rhine River, around 40 kilometers west of Frankfurt. With the river dominating the southern side of the city, the landscape rises up, eventually reaching the Taunus Mountains to the north. In fact the height gained from Wiesbaden harbor to the highest point is 525 meters.

Mainz is found to the south side of the river, opposite the junction of the river Main as it flows into the Rhine to the city’s east. To the west of Mainz is a nature reserve, containing the Mainz Sand Dunes, deposits from the last ice age, offering a very different type of beauty to the rest of the area.

Expatriates moving to Wiesbaden-Mainz will quickly come to realized that both cities are steeped in history and still have the feel of being port cities. They used to hold importance in European travel and trade, due to the number of waterways converging upon the surrounding landscape. Both cities have a rich mix of nationalities within their numbers, with populations from Turkey, Poland, Italy, and Greece being especially prevalent, amongst many others.

The Climate in Wiesbaden-Mainz

Being so close to each other, Wiesbaden and Mainz have almost identical climate profiles with regards to temperatures and rainfall. The entire area falls under the category of having a temperate-oceanic climate, characterized by a fairly narrow temperature range compared to more hostile areas, with warm summers and winters generally staying above the freezing point on average.

Rain is rarely an issue in the area, and in fact peaks in the summer months, from June to August. Wiesbaden experiences very slightly higher temperatures and a small amount more rainfall than its counterpart. This is probably due to the presence of the mountain range to the North. On the whole, the climate is most agreeable, making relocating to Wiesbaden-Mainz that bit easier.
