Russia is a country in Eastern Europe and North Asia. The land has a total area of 17,098,250 km² and a total coastline of 37,653 km. This area is about 1.7 times the size of the United States. There are direct national borders with the 14 neighbouring countries Azerbaijan, Belarus, China, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Kazakhstan, North Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Mongolia, Norway, Poland and Ukraine. The distance between New York City and the Capital Moscow is about 7,520 km.According to the definition of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Russia is one of the developing countries because of its lower economic performance. With an Human Development Index (HDI) of 0.824 Russia counts as one of the high developed economies by UN-definition. However, the IMF does not share this classification.
