Bulgaria is a country n Eastern Europe at the Black Sea. The land has a total area of 111,000 km² and a total coastline of 354 km. This area is approximately 105% of the area of Ohio. The country has 5 islands in the open sea. There are direct national borders with the 5 neighbouring countries Greece, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia and Turkey. The distance between New York City and the Capital Sofia is about 7,590 km.According to the definition of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Bulgaria is one of the developing countries because of its lower economic performance. With an Human Development Index (HDI) of 0.816 Bulgaria counts as one of the high developed economies by UN-definition. However, the IMF does not share this classification.
