Hong Kong is a country in southern China and the Pearl River Delta. The small state has a total area of 1,110 km² and a total coastline of 733 km. This area is about 1.4 times the size of New York City. The country has 263 partially uninhabited islands in the open sea. China ist the only directly neighbouring country of Hong Kong. The distance between New York City and the Capital Hong Kong is about 12,980 km.With an Human Development Index (HDI) of 0.939 Hong Kong counts as one of the high developed economies by UN-definition.
