Israel is a country north of the Sinai Peninsula on the Mediterranean. The land has a total area of 22,070 km² and a total coastline of 273 km. This area is approximately 88% of the area of Maryland. The country has 6 islands in the open sea. There are direct national borders with the 4 neighbouring countries Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.
